New Species of Butterfly Discovered in China


ScienceDaily (June 13, 2010) — Chinese and German scientists have found a new butterfly species in the south of China. It is the first known species of the family of large blue butterflies found to live in mountain forests. The new species from northwestern Yunnan was discovered by Prof. Min Wang of the South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, China and Dr. Josef Settele of the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research -- UFZ, Halle, Germany.

New Beetles and Butterflies from Madagascar

Hello Everyone
We have just received a new package from Madagascar containing some lovely butterflies and beetles.
Amongst the highlights we have the rare Charaxes andranodorus. We also have the lovely Charaxes cacuthis, including one female.


We have also received two new beetles, including the stunning Lampropepla rothschildi and Hoplideres aquilus (various sizes).

Fresh Specimens from RCA

Hello Everyone
Insect Designs has just been updated with some fresh specimens from RCA, including a few female Charaxes jasius epijasius. We also have a few other Charaxes, the popular Asterope pechuelli and amulia, and a few Graphium species.

Rare Hypolimnas octocula elsina now available

Insect Designs has just received some much sought after Hypolimnas octocula elsina pairs from New Caledonia. They are endemic to New Caledonia and extremely difficult to obtain. The specimens being offered in our store have been captive bred.
